BFG Manufacturing Services: FAQ

Answer: BFG are the letters of the names of the original investors. In 1947 Bob Brown, Joe Beezer, Howard Freas and John Grube started BFG. Shortly after the formation of the company the Sylvania Electric Company of Emporium, PA placed the first orders with the BFG.

Question: Do you chrome plate bumpers?

Answer: No BFG is an industrial coating company and does not do chrome plate.

Question: Where is BFG located and why is it located there?

Answer: BFG has two plants today, 701 Martha Street in Punxsutawney, PA 15767 and 3949 Jeffrey Blvd. in Hamburg NY 14075. The company was founded in Punxsutawney in 1947 and in the 1970's bought the former Tonawanda Platers of Hamburg, New York. Punxsutawney was a hotbed of early plating activity and attracted manufacturers that needed plating. By 1980 five manufacturers in Punxsutawney were using electroplating in their operations. The technical knowhow that is often the result of an industry cluster remains in BFG and Punxsutawney which is why we are located there.

Question: Why did you change your name?

Answer: As technology and tastes for coating change we have added many new services. Our original company BFG Electroplating was reorganized and changed to BFG Manufacturing Service when we built two new facilities and all new equiptment. We grew our other coating services to be more than half of our sales and the old name no longer was an accurate description of what we do.
